My wife and I have recently downsized our lives and moved into a smaller place. We gave up our larger, rented apartment, in a more affluent area of Taipei. We have moved into a place about half the size that is located in a less affluent area.
The motivation behind doing this was that we are hoping to save for bigger and better things. In the process, we have sold most of our furniture and have moved into a place that was already semi-furnished. This means that we now have very few possessions which has given both of us more of a sense of freedom.
More is Less
Now that our lives are streamlined — both with material possessions and financially — I am able to invest more into other projects. I have never felt so free and eager to take on new opportunities.
A lot of people are always chasing the almighty dollar. Working longer hours in order to make more money. Don’t get me wrong, I like making money also but sometimes the key to making more money is to spend less. By reducing our monthly expenses we have almost tripled our bankable income.
If I had decided to spend more time “trading hours for dollars” I would have less time to focus on my own ideas. My future, hopefully, isn’t about working for someone else.
Pushing Forward
In the half-a-dozen, or so, weeks since we have moved I have invested time and money into three new projects. I have a few others on the back burners but I just don’t have the time to put into them.
I am not just talking about changing the faucets in the kitchen. I am talking about business development ideas that will leverage our current situation. I find that I am able to focus more on future opportunities and worry less about the smaller details of the present.
Just Do It!
I would recommend to anyone, that has found themselves caught up in the daily grind and wondering how to finance their ideas, to do what we did. Cut out the minutiae and the unnecessary and focus on what is important.
