Five for Friday is a regular feature here on MatthewHooper.com. Five for Friday features five pieces of content that I have come across on the web throughout the week. It is most likely posts from other blogs that I have found insightful or meaningful. It may also be a quick video or a piece of audio, such as a podcast, that has intrigued me.
For Five for Friday this week I am going to do something a little different, a video only week. All of the links below are short videos that are highly interesting.
- Social Media Revolution 2 (Refresh)
This is a video that is full of interesting stats and numbers related to social media and social networking.
- Social Media ROI: Socialnomics
Interesting figures on why ROI of social media should be measured differently.
- The State of The Internet
Another fact filled video about internet habits.
- The Story of Bottled Water (2010)
A visual story of how water gets into the bottles we buy at the supermarket.
- The Word Media is Wrong
The infamous Gary Vaynerchuk speaking about how the word “media” shouldn’t be part of social media.
Your Turn
So what have you uncovered this week? Post some of your gems in the comments.

Quick Tip Monday is a regular feature here on MatthewHooper.com. Quick Tip Monday features a quick tip that will hopefully add a little speed to your workflow or help solve one of those minor, but nagging, problems.

How many times have you gone to a profile page on Twitter or some other social network and were greeted by the stock avatar picture and no bio?
This is the equivalent of someone going to a dinner party wearing a bag over their head. Not very inviting, is it?
Introduce Yourself
The first thing that you should do when creating a new profile is add a short blurb about yourself. It doesn’t have to be long winded and extremely detailed. Twitter limits you to 160 characters. I think this great. It forces you to be brief.
Personally, when I go to someone’s profile and there is no information about that person, I don’t really feel compelled to interact with that person.
Really Introduce Yourself
It’s okay to add a bit of humour to your bio but “Avenger of all things white” doesn’t tell me why I should care about you or what you have to say.
What You Should Include
Some suggestions for the information to include in your profile description are:
- User Image (at least change the default)
- Name (obviously)
- Location (could be just a city)
- Interests or Hobbies (keep this brief)
- Business Information (e.g. brand promotion)
Of course, the above are just suggestions. Be creative and introduce yourself. If you’re joining the social network and you’re passionate about your hobbies, then highlight those. If you’re passionate about your business or brand, then highlight that. A little goes a long way.
Do you fill out your profile information? Do you have any suggestions on how to craft an interesting description for you or your brand? Share your suggestions in the comments.
